I am currently a Senior in the Chemical Engineering department. I joined the Institute for Green Oxidation Chemistry under the supervision of Dr. Colin Horwitz in May of 2007.
The goal of my project is to understand how the TAML catalysts interact with some of the solid surfaces that are encountered in potential application areas such as Aluminum refining. I am measuring sorption isotherms of dissolved TAML in the presence of relevant solids such as different forms of aluminum hydrate. Various analytical methods used to determine the partitioning of TAML between the sorbent and aqueous phase. With this knowledge a new TAML catalysts can be designed that either takes advantage of favorable sorption interactions, or are inert to inhibitory materials.
